The state government will get its first electric car for the chief secretary for a month as part of a pilot project on June 14.
A public-sector undertaking, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), has set up a car charging unit at the exit of the first floor of the underground parking at the secretariat on Wednesday.
The project is in collaboration with the Tata Motors, said an official. The trial run of the car has already begun, and the car would be handed over to the chief secretary on June 14, he said.
Officials who wish not to be identified said a Tata Tigor electric vehicle (EV) car would be given to the chief secretary for a month for his local use and based on the feedback the company would think of more such cars for the use of government officials.
The ex showroom price of the car is Rs 11.30 lakh. The car battery could be charged 80% within 45 minutes and a full charge would take about 75 minutes.
The car can run over 110 km with a single charge, said the official. The state government owns about 300 vehicles for its official use managed by the Motor garage department and replacing all the vehicles is a long haul, but a beginning is being made in this direction, said an official.
