Global advanced battery solution provider, Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd (CATL) and global automaker, Honda, have entered a comprehensive strategic alliance for new energy vehicles batteries and joint R&D into next-generation fundamental technologies.
The announcement made on Friday, June 10, will ensure a stable supply of CATL’s NEV batteries to Honda mainly for their battery electric vehicles (BEVs) range and enable the two companies to further discussions on key areas such as joint development, stable supply, battery recycling, and reuse.
“Through this strategic cooperation, CATL and Honda will establish a stronger global partnership,” said Zhou Jia, President of CATL. “We are working together to deliver more competitive products and solutions to global electrification, and to finally achieve a clean and pleasant style of mobility.”
According to the statement released by the companies, the first model equipped with a CATL battery is scheduled to be launched in the Chinese market in 2022.
On the capital cooperation front, Honda has acquired approximately 1% of CATL shares through non-public issuance of stocks with the view to strengthen the strategic partnership.
