NTPC Ltd has once again been forced to prolong the bid submission deadline in a tender for battery energy storage systems (BESS) tied to solar parks on Andaman and Nicobar Islands, after facing poor response from bidders.
The Financial Express said on Saturday citing unnamed sources that the submission of a BESS project with a capacity of 24 MWh is now open until August 24. The storage system will be linked to a 17-MW photovoltaic (PV) facility at Manglutan in South Andaman.
Meanwhile, NTPC has extended to August 28 the deadline for submitting proposals for a 3.2-MWh BESS that will work in combination with an 8-MW solar plant at Chidiyatapu.
This is the second time that NTPC changes the submission deadline for the two BESS as the tenders had poor response among bidders. The previous extension was at the start of July, as the Hindu Business Line reported, saying that the two auctions have attracted the attention of sector players such as Rays Power Infra, Hero Future Energies, Renew Power and Amplus Solar.
A senior NTPC official has told the Financial Express that around 30 applications forms have been downloaded, while it is still not clear how many of them will be submitted.
