Chetan Maini is an entrepreneur and a technologist who is passionate about renewable energy and clean mobility. Having started his career with Amerigon Inc, in Monrovia, California, he is currently a director at Maini Group, a company with diverse businesses in automotive and aerospace components, material handling, plastics and logistics. He founded Reva Electric Car Company (in Bangalore, India), globally acknowledged as a pioneer in the domain of Electric vehicles. Since its inception, the company has sold thousands of electric vehicles in 24 countries across the globe. Chetan has led the business from its inception and looked at all aspects - Technology, R&D, Operations, Finance, HR, Sales & Marketing and Government policy. After Mahindra’s acquisition, Chetan led the team that created the next generation product, the e2o and one of the world’s greenest automobile facilities in Bangalore. Under his leadership, the company was ranked as the one 50 most innovative companies in the world by Fast company magazine. Chetan was also instrumental in setting up Formula E Racing for Mahindra and currently serves on the board of Mahindra Racing. He is also on the board of Altigreen and Lithium Technologies. Chetan served as a member on India’s National Board of Electric Mobility (NBEM) formed by Government of India, Ministry of Heavy Industry and played an instrumental role in implementing the EV policy for the country. He also served on the Technology Advisory Group (TAG) on Electric Mobility formed by Government of India under Ministry of Science and Technology. He is also currently on the committee of Jt. Secretaries that is framing the EV policy for India to enable transformation change. In 2011 he was adjudged a Young Global Leader (World Economic Forum) and was the Chairman of Personal Mobility Council at the WEF (Global Agenda Council). He was a founding member of the Entrepreneurs Organisation (EO) chapter in Bangalore and continues to be an active member. Chetan has received several accolades over the years from BBC Top Gear, The Economist in London and CNBC-TV 18 among others. He holds a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, with a specialization in Solar Electric Vehicles and a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University specialized in Hybrid electric vehicles. Chetan has worked for over 20 years in the development of Solar, Hybrid and Electric vehicles in the US and in India. His passion for electric vehicles started while he was at the University of Michigan where he was one of the key leaders of the solar car team.
