Samit Jain started his career with Tata Elxsi, Bangalore and worked both at Hawaii and Los Angeles in the area of network communications for 5  years before returning to India. He has been actively involved in various capacities in all functions at Pluss since 2003. Currently, as MD at Pluss, Samit heads the overall strategy, marketing and finance portfolios. With a belief that Energy access is going to be the key for a sustainable world, he has led the growth of energy storage materials at Pluss. Inspite of no takers initially, Pluss continued to invest time and energy to create these materials and build a strong research team with an eye on the future. A decade of work in  smart materials allowed Pluss  to become the leading player in enabling thermal energy storage products.  The pioneering work in saving fuel for air conditioning for telecom shelters, won a special mention at the first Bry-Air sponsored ASHRAE/ISHRAE awards in 2006. In 2009, Plastindia Foundation recognised this contribution in saving the environment by using energy storage with an Award under the Infrastructure Category. Samit spearheaded the equity investment of Tata Capital Innovations Fund into PLUSS in late 2012.  He led his team to develop and create energy storage products – some of which were the first in the world – MiraCradle™, worlds first neonatal cooler that can keep a baby cool for 3 days through energy storage. This device has become the standard of care to treat birth asphyxiated babies in India. The challenge of moving pharma products and vaccines at the right temperature, was addressed through another product – Celsure™. For both the products, patents have been applied for under PCT. Pluss went on to receive the CII’s – Most innovative MSME award (2015). Several start up’s in India today use Pluss’ materials to enable transport and energy access in cold storages and backup for electricity in refrigeration equipments. Samit is leading PLUSS’ efforts of Energy Storage Materials for buildings, as part of the Partnership of Advancement of Clean Energy – Research (PACE-R) funded by the Govt. of India, US- Dept. of Energy, with CEPT, Ahmedabad and the ONRL and LBNL laboratories, USA as the partners.
