Company: Fluidic Energy (Emerging Business Leader)

Dr. Ramkumar Krishnan is the Chief Technology Officer of Fluidic Energy and brings over 20 years of education, leadership and expertise in the areas of electrochemistry and energy storage, generation and conversion technologies. Dr. Krishnan joined Fluidic Energy in March 2008 and led product and R&D teams in the development of the company’s game changing rechargeable and long duration Zinc-air energy storage technology. The company now has over 100 patents and over $150 million invested in advancing this technology. Dr. Krishnan grew up in India where nearly 25% of the population does not have access to electricity. Reliable electricity is a problem even in urban cities in India and Krishnan himself has spent many nights reading and writing with the aid of light from candles or kerosene lamps. Dr. Krishnan played a critical part in launching the first commercial rechargeable zinc-air product in 2011 for telecom applications and, in 2016, further expanding product capabilities for rural electrification and other microgrid applications. Fluidic’s products have already impacted the lives of millions of people and thousands of communities in Southeast Asia, Central and Latin America by delivering reliable, affordable electricity to businesses and homes in diverse and difficult operating climates. Prior to Fluidic Energy, Dr. Krishnan was a member of the technical staff in the Energy Technology Laboratory of Motorola’s Embedded Systems Research Laboratories in Tempe, Arizona. He has also served as a lecturer in the Department of Electronic Systems at Arizona State University. Dr. Krishnan received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT; an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville; and a bachelor’s degree in chemical, and electrochemical engineering from the Central Electrochemical Research Institute in Tamil Nadu, India. Dr. Krishnan holds several patents both from Fluidic and Motorola in the areas of energy storage and fuel cells. He has also published a variety of journal articles in nanotechnology and electrochemistry related areas.
