Shailesh Upreti

Shailesh Upreti is an expert in energy storage technology and former member of the US Department of Energy’s Frontier Research Centers at Binghamton. He holds multiple technology patents and is published in 70 international journals. Uttarakhand-born scientist Shailesh was presented the 76West Clean Energy Competition–the largest clean technology business competition for green energy innovators–award for developing lithium-ion batteries by eliminating internal corrosion and with a lifespan of 20 years. An alumnus of IIT-Delhi, Upreti has patented the technology he developed. His technology has already been licensed to a number of companies in the US and other countries to manufacture the next generation batteries that can be used to store solar energy as well as run electric vehicles, including cars, trucks and buses. He has worked with New York State Energy Research and Development Agency and the US Army’s Research Development and Engineering Command. Shailesh served as Co-Chairman of the International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD) and American Association for the Advancement of Science and holds lateral positions with many similar global and national organizations. Shailesh holds a Ph.D from the Indian Institute of Technology at Delhi and is a former group member of Professor Stan Whittingham at SUNY Binghamton.
