Designation: Assistant Professor
Company: IIT Kanpur (Researcher)

Shobit Omar is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Materials Science & Engineering Department at IIT Kanpur. He has worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Fuel Cells and Solid State Chemistry Division at Risø-DTU in Denmark. During this period, he was involved in the rational designing and advanced electrochemical characterizations of novel ceramic fuel cell materials, performing long-term ageing study, and electron microscopy characterization of aged ceramic materials. He has also worked in Materials Nanoarchitectonics at National Institute for Materials Science in Japan, where he was involved in the electrical characterization of thin-film conductive materials for micro-fuel cells. Shobit Omar’s main research interest involves solid-state ionic materials with the main focus on the development of solid oxide fuel cells. His research also encompasses understanding materials properties at high temperatures. Specific materials under investigation in Dr. Omar’s group include oxide ionic conducting perovskites and fluorites, mixed ionic-electronic conductors, and fluorite oxides for thermal barrier coatings. The basic characterization tools used for the study ranges from XRD, SEM, TEM and impedance spectroscopy under a variety of configurations. He has received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from University of Florida at Gainesville, USA.
