EnGender: Ideas for Building the Gender-Energy Nexus in India

India's ambitious net zero target and increased focus on renewable energy has the potential to create over 3.8 million green jobs by 2030. At 43%, India has one of the highest female STEM graduates in the world, yet their share in STEM jobs is only 14%. India can add up to US$ 700 billion to its GDP in 2025 by achieving economic gender parity. Increased female labour force participation (FLFP) would account for ~70% of this projected growth. Increasing gender diversity can unlock dual benefits – for firms and investors – driving innovative, inclusive solutions and better business outcomes, while fulfilling the goals of reversing climate change and economically empowering women.

IFC and IESA are jointly hosting a discussion on how gender equality ties strongly with India’s pathway towards a fossil fuel free economy, and how to include women as change agents for collective climate action.
